Manchester United may have signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane in the summer, but that does not mean there are not players United fans cast jealous looks over.

United spent £136m in the recent summer transfer window on the classy trio, and despite a recent slump which saw them lose three of their last four matches, they look like a serious threat this season.

While there are still many creases in the team to be ironed out, Ronaldo’s 95th minute winner against Villarreal suggests the never say die and never give up attitude of Sir Alex Ferguson’s glory years has returned.

However, there are still many players Red Devils’ supporters wish they had also signed in the summer.

And one huge United fan Rio Ferdinand is one of those; saying he believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could regret not trying to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus in the summer.

Federico Chiesa was the deciding factor in Juventus’ tight victory against Chelsea in the Champions League

He told BT Sport: “He’s (Chiesa) a huge player and he’s been linked with a few clubs in England. I’m sure they’re thinking ‘why didn’t we get him?” Ferdinand said to BT Sports (cited by the Daily Star).

“He’s just a fantastic footballer. The intensity with which he plays with, we saw in the Euros he was the main goal threat for the Italians who went on to win the tournament.

“It’s his pace, his drive. He’s the one who is the threat, he’s potent, he wants to run in behind.

“He’s that modern day striker who can play anywhere across the front line and he’s as comfortable out wide as he is through the middle. He unnerves defenders with that pace, he’s so direct.”

Chiesa led the line for Italy in their triumphant Euro 2020 campaign in the summer, leading to several Premier League clubs courting the 23-year-old.

He also scored the winning goal in Juventus’ impressive 1-0 victory against Chelsea in the Champions League.

Former Blues star turned pundit Joe Cole is also a huge fan of Chiesa, even comparing him to another Premier League legend.

“The biggest attribute he’s got is he plays with a humility. He’s hustling and bustling like a young Luis Suarez character, he can make something out of nothing,” said Cole.

“Every club in Europe will want a slice of him when he becomes available.”
