Aston Villa are edging closer to wrapping up the loan signing of Senegal international Lamine Sane, according to The Telegraph.

The Premier League side, who remain rock-bottom despite their rare 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Tuesday night, are set to bring in the Bordeaux defender to Villa Park for the remainder of the 2015-16 campaign.

The 28-year-old, who can operate at centre-half or as a central defensive midfielder, has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.

Sane; who has 35 international caps for his country, is one of a few loan deals Villa boss Remi Garde hopes to pull off during the January transfer window, including Arsenal full-back Mathieu Debuchy and Chelsea striker Loic Remy.
