Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo will opt to leave the club if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League this term, according to The Sun

The report states that Ronaldo, who appeared visibly frustrated at being substituted during United’s win over Brentford on Wednesday, will either leave the club or face a salary decrease of 25% if United don’t qualify for Europe’s top club competition.

Ronaldo, who returned to United in a sensational move over the summer, started his second spell with the club strongly having scored a brace against Newcastle United, but has struggled to maintain his firm of late.

Having missed the Red Devils’ draw with Aston Villa last weekend, Ronaldo returned to action against the Bees, but looked infuriated at being substituted during the second half, and was later seen in discussion with boss Ralf Rangnick in the dugout.

Ronaldo has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, including former club Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and boyhood club Sporting Lisbon.

His future will likely remain undecided until nearer the end of the season, however, with United’s qualification for the Champions League, or failure to do so, likely to be the deciding factor for the Portuguese.

Rangnick’s side currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, two points off of fourth-placed West Ham United, but do have a game in hand on three of the current top four.
