Walsall climbed to the top of League One after winning 4-0 away at troubled Blackpool. A Romaine Sawyers brace, Tom Aldred own goal and Sam Mantom strike sealed their sixth victory on the bounce in all competitions, leaving the Tangerines bottom with just one point.

Mark Duffy’s 90th minute winner for Burton saw them win 1-0 at Shrewsbury, as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side continue their great start to the campaign, just one point off the top.

Doncaster won their first league game since May, with James Coppinger and Curtis Main getting on the scoresheet to wrap up a 2-0 home victory over Fleetwood, who had won their previous two.

Neil Collins and Billy Sharp scored the goals as Sheffield United beat Swindon 2-0 at the County Ground in the first meeting between the two since their amazing 5-5 play-off second-leg draw in May.

Coventry denied Southend their first win of the season, after a Sam Ricketts header 20 minutes from time saw a 2-2 draw played out at the Ricoh. Reda Johnson scored the first goal of the game with a volley after Adam Armstrong had an effort cleared off of the line for the Sky Blues. But Southend hit back with strikes from Noel Hunt and a David Mooney penalty, before Ricketts’ late equaliser.

Colchester came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Scunthorpe at home. Kevin Van Veen and Paddy Madden put The Iron into a comfortable lead, but George Moncur and George Elokobi completed the comeback.

Elsewhere, Chesterfield beat out of form Millwall 2-0 at The Den, Rochdale won 3-0 at home to Barnsley and there were 1-0 home wins for Bradford and Wigan, who beat Port Vale and Crewe respectively.

And, finally, Peterborough drew 1-1 at home to Gillingham, whilst Oldham and Bury played out the same result in their derby match at Gigg Lane.

Seventh placed Coventry host 22nd placed and winless Southend on Monday night knowing a win will see them return to second in the table.
