Coventry City moved to within a point of leaders Walsall as they came out on top of a seven-goal thriller against a Barnsley side that have now lost seven matches in a row.

Two goals from the league’s top scorer, Adam Armstrong, and one from Ryan Kent set up the victory, but it shall be remembered as the day former England international Joe Cole scored his first goal for the Sky Blues.

Cole’s free-kick on the hour mark eventually turned out to be the winner in the 4-3 win.

Joe Cole got off the mark for Coventry.

The Tykes remain just one point off the foot of the table and manager Lee Johnson is under increasing pressure.

Meanwhile, at Valley Parade, Bradford picked up all three points in the night’s other match against Blackpool.

James Hanson scored the only goal to hand the Tangerines their second defeat in a week.

Phil Parkinson’s Bantams are now ninth, three points off the top-six, after extending their unbeaten run to six matches.
