Exeter City thrashed Leyton Orient 4-0 at St James’ Park to end the visitors’ 100% start to the season.

Tom Nichols notched up two penalties, whilst Alex Nicholls and David Wheeler completed the rout on what was a bad day at the office for Orient’s defence. Ian Hendon’s team remain top, but their lead is now only a single point.

Luton bounced back from three defeats in a row to claim their first three points of the season with a 3-1 win at Cambridge. Luke Guttridge scored a speculative lob from the edge of the area against his old side to open the scoring, but Leon Legge equalised for Cambridge eight minutes later. The game changed after Harrison Dunk was sent off and Luke Wilkinson struck before a brilliant team-goal was finished off by Danny Green.

Elsewhere, Michael Harriman’s first two goals for Wycombe saw them beat Hartlepool 2-1 at home as they continue their unbeaten run, whilst Portsmouth also are yet to lose, after they drew 0-0 with Accrington at Fratton Park.

Carlisle beat Barnet in a five-goal thriller as Derek Asamoah’s brace secured the three points for the home side. Tom Miller and Asamoah gave the Cumbrians a 2-0 lead before Bira Dembele and Michael Gash levelled the scores. However, Asamoah struck again to seal the win.

Elsewhere, there were away wins for York, who comfortably beat Newport 3-0, Dagenham, who narrowly won 2-1 at Northampton, Morecambe, as they thumped Yeovil 4-2 and Oxford, who scraped a 1-0 victory at Bristol Rovers thanks to a stunning goal from Kemar Roofe.

Finally, Stevenage beat fellow play-off semi-finalists from last season, Plymouth, 2-1, whilst Mansfield and AFC Wimbledon drew 1-1 at Field Mill.
