Reuben Reid’s spectacular volley saw Plymouth go three points clear at the top of League Two as they narrowly beat fellow promotion contenders Accrington Stanley 1-0 at Home Park.

Reid hit his fourth goal in four games by arrowing a right-footed volley into the left-hand corner from the edge of the penalty area.

In the game between two promotion chasers below the Pilgrims, Leyton Orient came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw against Oxford United.

Kemar Roofe and John Lundstram put the U’s 2-0 up at half-time, but goals from Jay Simpson and Scott Kashket’s injury time equaliser resuced a point for the hosts, leaving the London side two points behind their third-placed visitors.

Morecambe destroyed AFC Wimbledon 5-2 away from home as they extend their unbeaten away run to seven matches. Shaun Miller was the hero, netting twice, one of which was an outstanding 35-yard effort that hit the back of the net. The other scorers for the visitors were Alan Goodall, Paul Mullin and Tom Barkhuizen.

Barnet won for the first time in three games, beating York 3-1 at home, to distance themselves from the drop zone in the process. John Akinde opened the scoring for the Bees before York thought they had rescued a point when Michael Coulson made it 1-1 with 10 minutes left. But Michael Gash had other ideas, when he rocketed a 25-yeard effort into the back of the net, which was followed up by Josh Clarke’s late strike.

Meanwhile, Crawley Town came from a goal behind to win 2-1 at home to Luton, with Matt Harold getting the winner on 81 minutes, Cambridge overcame Northampton by the same score-line at home as Barry Corr netted the winner and his seventh of the campaign in the process.

Stevenage goalkeeper Jesse Joronen scored a goal from his own half to help Teddy Sheringham’s side win 2-1 at home to Wycombe, and there were home victories for Notts County, who beat Yeovil 2-0, with strikes coming from Izale McLeod and Stanley Aborah, whilst Carlisle scraped a 1-0 victory over Exeter.

Elsewhere, Hartlepool won away from home 1-0 against Dagenham, as did Bristol Rovers on their travels to Mansfield, with the Pirates coming out 2-1 victors.
