Liverpool will hope to move a step closer to the Premier League title when they host fierce rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side boast an eight-point lead at the top of the table at the midway point in the campaign, having lost just once in 19 matches so far.

The Dutchman will be very pleased with the start his side have made, but he will also be desperate to see them pick up all three points against the Red Devils, who have lost five of their last six Premier League matches.

Off the pitch, the Merseyside club face the dire prospect of losing three key players next summer.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will all soon enter the final six months of their respective contracts, meaning the trio could sign pre-contract agreements with any foreign clubs next month.

Liverpool are keen to reach agreements with all three players, though, and it appears that they may have made a breakthrough.

According to Football Insider, forward Salah has ‘agreed in principle’ to extend his stay at Anfield by a further two years.

Salah has been in sensational form for Liverpool this season

Salah, 32, joined the Reds from Italian side Roma in 2017 and has since played 375 times for the Merseyside club across all competitions, scoring 231 goals and providing 105 assists.

The Egyptian has been particularly impressive this term, registering a combined 30 goals and assists in 18 Premier League matches so far.

The report claims that, while a broad agreement has been reached, the deal hasn’t yet been finalised due to hold-ups related to the player’s image rights.

It is said that there is growing encouragement that an agreement will be reached over an extension, with Salah set to sign a multi-year deal that will extend his stay on Merseyside.
