Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen to add a striker to his squad this summer.

The Red Devils have already signed midfielder Mason Mount from rivals Chelsea, but the Dutchman is looking to add a new forward to his squad ahead of next term.

Ten Hag guided United to third place in the Premier League table during his first season in charge last term, as well as winning the Carabao Cup.

United scored the fewest goals of any side in the Premier League’s top six, though, and Ten Hag is therefore keen to bolster his front line during the current window.

Now, it appears that United may have made progress in their pursuit of a Serie A star.

According to Football Insider, Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils.

The report claims that United are making progress on a potential deal for the 20-year-old, who impressed for the Italian outfit last term.

Hojlund, 20, scored ten goals in 34 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta last season, having joined the club from Austrian club Sturm Graz last summer.

It is also claimed that United have been shown encouraging signs that a deal may be possible recently, with the player himself telling his current employers that he wishes to move to Old Trafford.

Hojlund is currently contracted to Atalanta until the summer of 2027, having penned a five-year-deal when signing for the club.

The youngster is seen by those in charge of United as a cheaper alternative to other attacking targets – including Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen – who would both cost considerably more than the Dane.

Having made his senior debut for Denmark last September, Hojlund has now scored six goals in as many matches for his country at international level.

United haven’t yet found a permanent replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed the club last November.

Wout Weghorst did join the club on loan from Burnley in January, but the Netherlands international failed to score a Premier League goal last term and has now returned to Turf Moor.
