Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca will be relatively pleased with his side’s start to the new season.

The Blues sit fourth in the Premier League table heading into the second international break of the campaign, having also won in both the Carabao Cup and UEFA Conference League in the early weeks of the season.

The Italian endured what appeared to be a far from ideal start to his tenure amid a hectic summer at Stamford Bridge, with plenty of incomings and outgoings.

Maresca was forced to cut a number of players from his first team squad, which at one point consisted of in excess of 4o players.

Most of those that were deemed surplus to requirements were moved on, with a couple of exceptions.

Now, it appears that one of those that remained has attracted interest from a number of other clubs.

As per Football Insider, left-back Ben Chilwell is attracting interest from several other clubs with a January departure from Stamford Bridge expected.

Chilwell is likely to leave Chelsea in January

The Englishman fell out of favour when Maresca arrived over the summer, and his only appearance of the season so far came in Chelsea’s 5-0 win over League Two side Barrow in the Carabao Cup third round.

It is claimed that the full-back is unlikely to force his way back into Maresca’s side, with both Marc Cucurella and new signing Renato Veiga ahead of him in the pecking order on the left of defence.

Chilwell could make the bench in the Premier League for the first time this season when the Blues visit Liverpool next time out, with Cucurella suspended.

Having joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020, Chilwell has since made a total of 107 appearances.

He has won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup during his time in London, but his spell in the capital has also been plagued by injuries.

Chilwell is contracted to Chelsea until the end of the 2026/27 season, but the report suggests that he is likely to leave the club in the new year with several clubs monitoring his situation.
