Manchester United have been handed a huge blow in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong as the midfielder reportedly prefers a move to one of their Premier League rivals.

As per Sport via The Mirror, the Dutchman is not keen on a move to Old Trafford, but would be ‘open’ to joining Chelsea.

United have been in talks with the La Liga side for much of the summer and, while the two clubs are reported to have reached an agreement, personal terms with the player are proving a stumbling block for the Red Devils.

De Jong is wanted by several clubs this summer

De Jong is a player Erik Ten Hag knows well from his time in the Eredivisie, and he has made no secret of his desire to sign the 25-year-old.

The midfielder starred in the Ajax side that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019, and earned himself a £77.4 million move to the Nou Camp in the same year.

He has impressed during his time in Spain, but the Catalan giants are reportedly open to letting him leave for the right price.

The player, though, is reluctant to leave Barcelona, the report claims.
