We’re turning the clock back 48 years now to 1972.

Liverpool might be dominating the Premier League this season but back in the 1970s, they were a forced to be reckoned with throughout the decade.

One of their stalwarts from that era was Steve Heighway – an Irish winger who joined the Anfield club in 1970.

In his 11 years on Merseyside, Heighway helped the Reds win four First Division titles, the FA Cup, League Cup, two European Cups, two UEFA Cups and the UEFA Super Cup.

Sitting 17th in the club’s all-time appearance list with 475 matches played, Heighway was a real fan favourite on Merseyside.

Forty-eight years ago, the ex-Republic of Ireland international took part in Shoot’s famous ‘Focus On’.

In the feature, Heighway shared his biggest thrill, favourite TV show, most memorable match and much more.

Enjoy!

Shoot first hit the shelves as a weekly publication on August 16th, 1969 and quickly became the UK’s most popular football magazine.
