Player of the Month: Nick Blackman (Reading)

Despite suffering a slow start to his career at Reading, with just nine goals in two and a half seasons, Blackman has shown just why the Royals forked out on him in the first place. The former Sheffield United star hit four goals – the total amount he scored for in the 2013/14 season – in five games in all competitions in September, leaving him on seven goals in seven games. Only Derby County were able to keep him quiet in September as he helped Steve Clarke’s side collect three wins from four matches.

Manager of the Month: Aitor Karanka (Middlesbrough)

The month of September has shown just why Middlesbrough were seen as pre-season promotion contenders, as Aitor Karanka steered his men to five victories in five games in all competitions. While the run saw Boro dispossess sides they’re expected to beat, such as Brentford and MK Dons; Leeds United and Nottingham Forest posed far greater tests. Yet while Karanka’s side fortunately scraped a 2-1 win past a Forest side who missed a penalty, they annihilated Leeds with a 3-0 victory to close the month out. September also saw Boro progress in the Capital One Cup, after convincingly defeating fellow second-tier side Wolves 3-0.

Goal of the Month: Oliver Norwood – READING vs Ipswich Town
