Shoot!’s ultimate Swansea-Everton five-a-side team

Premier League strugglers Swansea City host Everton on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off) in need of three points in their battle to beat the drop.

Paul Clement’s men picked up a valuable 1-1 draw away at Manchester United last weekend to remain two points adrift of 17th place Hull City, but with just three games of the season remaining, the Swans need to register some victories if they are to secure their top-flight status.

Yet it won’t be easy against Ronald Koeman’s Everton, who are sitting pretty in seventh place in the table, and with the likelihood of them playing European football next term.

The Toffees have won 16 of their 35 Premier League matches this season to sit just two points adrift of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, but with just two victories in their last six, and no win on the road since January, they’ll have to rediscover some form to beat Swansea on Saturday.

So, with the build-up well underway ahead of Saturday’s clash, we at Shoot! have selected our ultimate Swansea-Everton five-a-side team from those players available for selection at the Liberty Stadium this weekend…

Lukasz Fabianski

Neither Joel Robles or Maarten Stekelenburg have been overly convincing this season, and while Swansea have conceded a league-high 69 goals this term, Lukasz Fabianski hasn’t been to blame for many of them.

The former Arsenal shot-stopper has started all 35 of the Swans’ league matches this season, and has at times produced man-of-the-match displays to help Clement’s men secure vital points in their battle against the drop.

The Poland international was outstanding in their 1-0 win over Watford last month and in their 2-0 victory over Stoke a week later, so he’s clearly in form and performing well for the South Wales side, and thus earns a spot in our team.

Ashley Williams

Swansea fans will be hugely familiar with Everton defender Ashley Williams, who has once again proven to be one of the most accomplished and reliable centre-backs in the Premier League.

The Wales captain made the move from South Wales to Merseyside last summer, and Swansea’s tally of 69 goals against somewhat highlights his loss to their backline, and how important he was in terms of solidity and organisation in that back four.

And he has continued his fine form at Goodison Park, starting 32 of their 35 Premier League games, and becoming the most senior defender in the Everton ranks.

He is comfortably the best defender at both clubs, and thus gets the nod in our team.

Idrissa Gueye

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye was second only to N’Golo Kante in terms of tackles made and interceptions in last season’s Premier League, and Gueye played for a hopelessly poor Aston Villa team.

Yet this term has seen the Senegal international turn the tables somewhat, as it is he who leads the tackles made statistic with just a few weeks to go, making 129 tackles to Kante’s 114, which demonstrates how good a season the Toffees man is having.

The 27-year-old has started 29 of their 35 league games this season, missing a few due to African Cup of Nations commitments, and there’s little doubt that Koeman’s men lack a bit of energy and tenacity when he’s not on the pitch.

Gueye is absolutely perfect for a five-a-side team, which is why he makes the cut for our side.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Everton have some quality attacking players, Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas to name but a few, but none of them are as reliable and consistent as Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Iceland international has at times carried the Swans this term, with his nine goals and 12 assists helping Clement’s men have a fighting chance of survival, given that his tally of 21 contributions is nine better than the next-best Fernando Llorente (12 goals).

His sublime free-kick to rescue a point away at United proved the point entirely, and it’s these moments of brilliance that Swansea may need to get out of trouble between now and the end of the season.

He may end up an Evertonian next season if reports are to be believed, and his recent form and overall efforts this campaign sees him comfortably make our team.

Romelu Lukaku

Fernando Llorente has been a key part of Swansea’s revival under Clement, yet you cannot leave Everton forward Romelu Lukaku out of this team.

The 23-year-old is the Premier League’s top-scorer with 24 goals this term, three more than Tottenham’s Harry Kane, and with 16 goals in 17 games in all competitions since the turn of the year, he is also in great form leading the line for Koeman’s side.

Lukaku is quick, strong, agile, great with the ball at his feet, and brilliantly aerially – he is the all round striker any club in the division would want, and any five-a-side team could do with, hence he makes our team.
