Sir Alex Ferguson will be keen for Manchester United to snap up John McGinn in January, according to former Aston Villa scout, when speaking to the Athletic.

United legend Sir Alex still has a big influence over the club he managed for 26 years. A period which saw the club win many major trophies in the most successful period the club has ever had.

Sir Alex was thought to be a big reason why United chose Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer to replace Jose Mourinho, and the current boss has openly stated he receives advice from his former manager.

And ex Aston Villa scout Bobby Jenkins believes Sir Alex will be very vocal in the club’s pursuit for in-form Aston Villa man John McGinn.

Sir Alex Ferguson still has a big influence on decisions at Manchester United.

The midfielder has enjoyed a fantastic start to Premier League life with the Villains, scoring three goals and assisting one in just seven league games.

Former Scout believes Sir Alex will be a big fan of the former Hibernian man.

He said:

“He’s up there with the best-performing midfielders in the division. Wait until he’s had a year at that level and then we can say more.

“What I do know is that Sir Alex Ferguson is wondering why Manchester United let a talented Scottish boy slip through.

“He’ll be keeping a close eye on him that’s for sure and if he continues the way he is, you can bet he’ll be telling his pals at United, too.”
