Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has plenty of forward options to choose from this season at Manchester United.

However, with so many top players to choose from, the Norwegian has rotated numerous times as he’s looked to find the winning formula he needs right now.

With Cristiano Ronaldo seemingly an automatic pick having been benched just once since his return, a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 system that Solskjaer deploys only leaves space for one or two of Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial in the starting XI.

However, according to Spanish publication Marca, an opportunity has opened up for United to trim their forward ranks.

It’s reported that Barcelona are considering making a loan offer for striker Cavani.

The Uruguayan is a fan favourite at Old Trafford but having started the campaign on the sidelines he has only started two matches to date.

Cavani has scored once for United this season.

Cavani, 34, signed a new one-year deal in May to keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2022.

But that was prior to the arrival of Ronaldo which – despite having played together at times – has seen the South American’s playing time reduced.

Barcelona are in a financial black hole but they are reportedly eyeing loan deals to bolster new boss Xavi’s squad which currently sits ninth in La Liga after losing Lionel Messi in the summer.

Cavani, who has previously played in Italy and France, is thought to be one of those targets along with Chelsea’s Timo Werner and Man City’s Raheem Sterling.

It’s unlikely that United fans will want the striker who scored 17 goals for them last term to depart, but it is a deal which could make Solskjaer’s selection more straightforward.
