Solskjaer faces yet more problems as England international looks to force move away

Manchester United’s season went from bad to worse on Saturday afternoon, as the Red Devils lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The result followed up their last home game, during which they lost 5-0 to fellow rivals Liverpool and, despite a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur sandwiched in between, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at the club looks to be under increasing threat.

Aside from witnessing his side’s often dismal performances on the pitch, Solskjaer is also having to deal with speculation growing over the future of Paul Pogba, as well as the public frustrations of Donny van de Beek, who is yet to start a Premier League game so far this term.

Now, it appears that Solskjaer may have another problem to face.

According to The Mail, goalkeeper Dean Henderson is growing tired of acting as deputy to David de Gea and will push for a move if he can’t regain the starting spot that he held at the end of last season.

The Englishman established himself as Solskjaer’s first choice ‘keeper during the latter part of last season, but has since fallen behind the Spaniard once again since recovering from an injury that forced him to withdraw from England’s Euro 2020 squad.

De Gea has conceded seven goals in his last two home matches.

Now, the 24-year-old is reportedly keen on leaving the club next summer, admitting that he is unlikely to be allowed to leave in January.

The report suggests that one of the player’s main focuses is proving that he should be included in England’s squad for next year’s World Cup, having been committed from the last three squad’s by Gareth Southgate.

The player still has more than four years remaining on the £120,000-per-week contract he signed last year, but has made just one appearance so far this season.

The player would reportedly be open to leaving in January, with Newcastle touted as a potential destination, but he is aware that his current employers are unlikely to allow him to leave midway through the season without replacing him.

The competition for places between the sticks at Old Trafford was heightened over the summer by the acquisition of Tom Heaton, who joined the club on a free transfer to provide backup and act as cover for Henderson and De Gea.
