Manchester United look set to announce their third summer signing in the coming days, with Real Madrid defender and World Cup winner Raphael Varane set to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The Frenchman will follow Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho through the door at Old Trafford, and the signing of a world class centre-back to partner Harry Maguire will undoubtedly make the Red Devils title contenders.

Heaton was signed as a replacement for former ‘keeper Sergio Romero, who departed the club this summer following the expiry of his contract.

Sancho, who had been the subject of long term interest from the Premier League side, was eventually captured and joined for a fee of around £73 million.

Solskjaer has fuelled speculation of more United signings by refusing to rule out more activity.

Now, United boss Solskjaer has spoken once again of his side’s transfer plans, and his words may excite the club’s fans.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Norwegian explained how he is pleased with his side’s business so far, but refused to rule out further dealings before the window closes at the end of August.

“You never know what is going to happen in football,” he said.

“We’ve still got one hopefully coming in (Varane) and any surprises, anything can happen.

“We’ve got to be ready, but I’m very happy with what we have done so far.”

Solskjaer’s words will encourage United fans, with the club having been linked with a number of players in different positions, including England full-back Kieran Trippier and French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
