Southampton have made contact with La Liga side Valencia over a January deal for midfielder Dani Parejo, according to an exclusive from the Daily Star.

The 27-year-old, who is valued at £16.5m, has fallen out of favour in Spain, and Claude Puel has sent scouts to the Mestalla on a number of occasions in order to cast their eye over the midfield man.

As per the Star‘s report, Parejo has been keen to leave the club since the summer window, and has been made readily available by the Spanish outfit in January.

However, with the Spaniard full in the window, Saints are not the only ones considering a move in the winter window, with Italian giants Inter Milan also in the running, as well as Sevilla and Monaco.

Saints appear ready to spend in the window, however fans will be desperate to see a striker as the first man through the door in January, considering the lack of goals this term.
