Southampton manager, Claude Puel is keen on landing a January move for Malaga midfielder, Juanpi, as he looks to bolster his squad for a testing second half of the season, according to reports from Digital Gol.

The 22-year-old, who has impressed in Spain over the last 12 months or so having made just shy of 40 appearances for the La Liga outfit since the start of last season, scoring on five occasions.

Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague claimed that the attacking midfielder, who can play either through the middle or on the right hand side, was being considered by three top Premier League clubs, whilst also comparing him to revived Man City winger, Raheem Sterling.

The Venezuela international has a release clause of around £18m meaning that should Puel go after his man, he would likely have to break the Saints transfer record for the second time this season, having already broken it to bring in winger Sofaine Boufal from Lille.

This wouldn’t be the first time the South Coast side have opted to take a player from Malaga, former boss, Ronald Koeman, brought in striker Juanmi from the club, however he failed to make a mark in English football and has since joined Real Sociedad.
