In 2014, Luke Shaw made the PFA Team of the Year at just 18-years-old representing Southampton and signed for one of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester United.

After a rocky time hit with injuries, he’s now proving to be the left-back that the early promise displayed.

It has meant that another full-back in the Red Devils’ ranks has seen his game-time limited – with a potential switcharoo to come, as Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl declares his interest in signing the forgotten man.

The player in question is 20-year-old versatile full-back Brandon Williams, who rose to prominence with spells in the Red Devils first team last season but has failed to recapture the magic that inspired him into the senior fold.

Hasenhuttl told Hampshire Live: “He is an interesting player and a good player, yes. As Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] said, he does not think that a lot of players will leave the club so we keep on going!”

Ralph Hasenhuttl is preparing to take his Saints side into matchday 38 of a Premier League season for the third time on Sunday

His comments come after Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer speaking at a press conference, where he said: “We’ve had a few players on loan that might come back in,” he said. “There is interest in a few others going out.

“You want to come out of the transfer window strengthened. It’s difficult to say but I can’t see too many outgoings.”

Clearly, it looks quite bleak for Saints’ interest based on those comments, with the South-coast side having already pursued Williams on a loan basis and failing.

However, after 17 appearances in the Premier League last year, Williams has only featured on three occasions for United during this campaign – potentially spelling out that he needs to either exit the club or develop further before he has a chance in the gold-soaked red jersey of United.
