Liverpool have joined Chelsea in the race for Ryan Bertrand.

According to a report in The Mirror the Southampton left-back is being considered to fill the Liverpool problem position.

Bertrand has been the regular left-back at St Mary’s all season and has caught the attention of a number of clubs looking out for a versatile left-back.

A return to Chelsea would see the 27-year-old battling it out for a place in Antonio Conte’s side but that was the position that Bertrand was in in 2014 when he opted to convert a loan to Southampton into a permanent deal.

Moving to Liverpool would offer a better chance of regular top team football with James Milner filling in at that position at the moment.

With a World Cup at the end of the season Liverpool are hoping that they can convince Bertrand to follow the well worn path from St Mary’s to Anfield to book a place in Gareth Southgate’s side.
