Southampton have reportedly had a £6.8 million bid for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Marko Rog turned down, according to the Daily Star.

Saints boss Claude Puel is still looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, but the south coast club’s offer for the Croatia international has been rejected, with his club understood to be looking for £12.8 million.

However, the Frenchman is determined to get his man and is set to raise the bid for the 21-year-old, who has been linked with Premier League rivals Liverpool, as well as Villarreal and Napoli.

The playmaker, who has four years left on his contract, has already scored twice in his club’s Champions League qualifiers this season.

Southampton have signed four players so far this summer – Nathan Redmond, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Alex McCarthy and Jeremy Pied.
