Southampton could become the next European club to be targetted by Chinese investors, as a group are in talks to take over the club from current owner, Katharina Liebherr, according to reports from Bloomberg.

As per the reports, Chinese firm Lander Sports Development Co. have been in talks with Saints’ Swiss owner for a number of weeks now.

The deal could be for as much as £200 million and would mean the South Coast side following in the footsteps of West Brom who were taken over by a Chinese firm in the summer.

Katharina took the reigns at the club, in terms of ownership, after the death of her father, Marcus, who saved the club from ruin in League One and kick-started their meteoric rise back to the top flight and, eventually, European football.

The current Saints owner has always made it clear that she would not actively look to sell the club but would consider selling due to her limited knowledge of footballing matters.
