Southampton knock back Sunderland’s Rodriguez bid

Sunderland have failed in a bid to sign Jay Rodriguez from Southampton.

According to a report in the Daily Mail a £12m bid for the striker has been rejected as Davie Moyes searches for a striker to support Jermain Defoe.

With Victor Anichebe joining Duncan Watmore on the long term injured list the need to bring in at least one striker has been magnified.

Despite the shoulder injury to Charlie Austin Rodriguez has struggled to get a look in at Claude Puel’s side.

The sale of Patrick van Aanholt to Sunderland for £14m gave Moyes some scope to go into the transfer market with Everton duo Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo arriving at the Stadium of Light on Monday.

Moyes is now trying to bring in a striker to boost his side’s relegation battle with the clock ticking down towards the close of the transfer window.
