Southampton have reportedly made the first move in trying to sign non-league star Luke Thomas.

The Premier League outfit, who currently sit seventh in the standings after their opening 12 fixtures, are understood to have launched an opening £50,000 bid for the Cheltenham Town forward.

The 16-year-old, who is also drawing interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and even Benfica, is yet to make his first-team debut for the Robins.

However Thomas has made the Cheltenham substitution bench four times so far this season – once in the National League and three times in the FA Cup.

He has scored 14 goals for the Robins’ Under-18s side this campaign, including six strikes in the FA Youth Cup.
