Southampton could be ready to reignite their interest in a long term target as manager Claude Puel looks to bolster his defence over the summer months.
According to reports from ClubCall, the Saints are considering a move for Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson, whom they have followed for a number of years.
The south coast club were first drawn to the Swede during his time with Malmo, and could look to tempt the 26-year-old into a Premier League move, especially if Gary Monk’s side fail to earn promotion this season.
The Saints have played more games than many this season, having been involved in the Europa League group stage, the FA Cup and EFL Cup, where they reached the final.
With such a packed schedule Claude Puel will be looking to add strength in depth over the summer and sent scouts to Leeds’ Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend.
One thing which could complicate matters is the deal in place to make Jansson a permanent United player come the end of the season, when he will complete his full move from Torino.
