Southampton are preparing a move for Waasland-Beveren right-back Laurent Jans in January as they look to solve their issues in the position, according to The Mirror.

The report claims that the South Coast side are ready to spend £1m on the Luxembourg international, making him the first from his country to play in the Premier League.

Claude Puel is currently without two of his first choice right-backs, Cedric Soares and summer signing Jeremy Pied, through injury leaving Cuco Martina as the only fit option.

Despite some impressive performances earlier in the season, Martina has begun to falter slightly raising concerns for the French manager.

The 24-year-old has been attracting interest from Championship clubs Aston Villa and Huddersfield due to his performances this season, picking up two goals in 15 from full-back.

The addition of Jans could help former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman reopen his move for Martina, who was on the verge of a Deadline Day move to Merseyside before Pied’s injury meant he was needed at St. Mary’s.
