Southampton turn to Tuchel

Southampton are preparing an ambitious move for Thomas Tuchel.

According to a report in The Sun the former Borussia Dortmund coach is being sounded out about replacing Claude Puel.

The Frenchman is surviving on a day to day basis with the guessing game well underway as to who will succeed him at St Mary’s.

Tuchel was surprisingly sacked days after Dortmund won the German Cup and is widely admired for his work at the club shaped by Jurgen Klopp.

It’s believed that Southampton have been working behind the scenes to sound out candidates to take over before formally dismissing Puel after just one season in charge of the club.

Filling Ronald Koeman’s boots was a big job with all the signs suggesting that Tuchel is interested in moving to the south coast where one of his first tasks will be dealing with the Virgil van Dijk transfer saga which could raise close to £60m for the club.
