Southampton: Who tops the Saints’ January transfer wishlist?

Italy international Eder has been in fine form for Sampdoria this season.

For Ronald Koeman’s side it was going to be a hard task to replicate last season’s magical year. Europa League football was brought to St Mary’s with a feel-good feeling, but failure to qualify for the group stages sums up the Saints’ season to date.

After a positive October beating Chelsea, the end of November seemed to halt Southampton’s climbing of the league and a defeat to Stoke and draw to strugglers Aston Villa, both at home, leave the South Coast club in 12th, and they are in desperate need of getting their frontline firing.

The slight dip in form of Graziano Pelle has surely left Koeman prioritising the addition of a striker in January. A potential answer is to link Pelle up with fellow Italy international Eder, with the Sampdoria striker finding the net ten times in only 15 Serie A games this term, and he might fancy a new challenge with his team currently 16th in the standings.
