Name: Graziano Pelle
As time went on; March turned out to be a profitable month for the Saints, with a lot of their upturn in form being owed to striker Graziano Pelle.
The 30-year-old, who is expected to feature for Italy at the Euro 2016 Championships in France later this summer, scored three goals and provided two assists in the final two Premier League fixtures of last month to inspire Ronald Koeman’s side to impressive victories over Stoke City (1-2) and Liverpool (3-2) respectively.
After a thoroughly disappointing opening 1-0 defeat to the hands of AFC Bournemouth, before a drab 1-1 draw with lowly Sunderland kicked off March’s proceedings, forward Pelle sparked Southampton into life by spearheading the Saints’ win at the Britannia Stadium by scoring both of his team’s goals in the first-half.
The Italian ace then spearheaded his teammates’ remarkable comeback at St Mary’s Stadium against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, setting up Sadio Mane’s brace and netting the host’s second goal himself to pin back the Reds after the visitors stormed into a two-nil lead after 22 minutes.
Pelle now has 12 goals in all competitions this campaign.
