Spanish giants Barcelona ‘upset’ after failing to sign 18-year-old Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Arsenal swooped in for Matinelli in the summer, signing the young striker for £6million from Brazilian side Ituano and despite his age has already featured for the Gunners.
Manager Unai Emery has not been afraid to use Matinelli and the Brazilian prospect has already repaid the faith in him, with two goals at Anfield in the Carabao Cup and other strong performances.
It wasn’t just Arsenal who were keen to sign the goalscorer in the summer, Martinelli spent time at Manchester United, as well as the infamous La Masia academy early in 2019.
And according to Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona hierarchy are said to be ‘upset’ at the fact they let such a talent slip through their grasp.
It’s rare for the Catalan club to make a mistake when it comes to talented young players, but the Gunners will be mightily relieved Martinelli is playing at the Emirates.
