Tottenham Hotspur will hope to build on Saturday’s win over Everton when they face Newcastle United on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Leicester City on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, before cruising to a 4-0 victory over the Toffees on Saturday.

The Australian will hope to see his side replicate that performance when they travel north to face the Magpies at St. James’ Park.

In the meantime, however, it appears that one of Spurs’ midfielders is nearing a move away from the club.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Giovani Lo Celso remains a target for Spanish side Real Betis and is expected to leave Tottenham before the end of the transfer window.

The Argentine, who was part of his country’s squad for the Copa America earlier this summer, joined Tottenham from Betis five years ago, initially on loan, before making the switch permanent in 2020.

Lo Celso could return to former club Real Betis this week

He has since had two loan spells with fellow Spanish side Villarreal and has largely failed to establish himself as a regular starter for the North London club.

Spurs are therefore willing to allow the 28-year-old to depart in the final days of the transfer window, and his former side are said to be pushing to re-sign him.

In total, Lo Celso has played 108 times for the Lilywhites, scoring ten goals and providing eight assists.

He is able to play in a number of roles, including as a central midfielder and on either flank, but he has never managed to assert himself as the first choice in any of those roles.

The Argentina international is also in the final year of his contract, which means he could sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club in January and leave Spurs next summer for free.

The North London outfit could therefore cash in on him during the current window, although they are running out of time before it slams shut.
