Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to end a run of five games without a win when they welcome Newcastle United to North London on Sunday afternoon.

Having topped the Premier League table after ten games, Spurs have since lost four and drawn once, seeing Ange Postecoglou’s side slip to fifth in the standings.

The Magpies will undoubtedly provide another stern test for the Lilywhites, but it also appears that the two clubs are battling it out off the pitch.

As reported by Football Insider, Tottenham are ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Juventus youngster Samuel Iling-Junior.

It is claimed that Spurs have made signing the 20-year-old a top priority ahead of the January transfer window.

Iling-Junior joined the Serie A side from Chelsea’s youth academy back in 2020, and has graduated into the Juventus first team over the past 12 months.

Iling-Junior is said to be a target for both Spurs and Newcastle

In total the winger has made 23 appearances for the Italian club, scoring once and providing three assists.

So far this season, the Englishman has made just five Serie A appearances and is yet to start a league game.

Spurs boss Postecoglou is said to be keen to bolster his attacking options when the window reopens, with his side having struggled since James Maddison suffered an injury against Chelsea last month.

The England international hasn’t featured since, and Tottenham haven’t won in that time.

Iling-Junior’s contract is set to run until the summer of 2025, but the report claims that Juventus would be willing to accept an offer of around £20 million for the youngster.

Tottenham are expected to make an official offer for the player when the window reopens next month.
