Tottenham Hotspur will face Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday in a friendly match to raise funds for the Ukrainian club’s charitable foundation.

The Lilywhites will also face Barcelona next week, ahead of their Premier League opener against Brentford on 13th August.

Goals from Harry Kane, Richarlison and Giovani Lo Celso helped the North Londoners to a 5-1 win over the Lion City Sailors in their most recent pre-season test.

Despite their preparations on the pitch, uncertainty still surrounds Ange Postecoglou’s side off the field.

The Lilywhites have been involved in a lengthy transfer saga involving Harry Kane, with the England captain continuously linked with a move away from the club.

Despite club officials travelling from Bavaria to London to hold meetings with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, an agreement is yet to be reached.

Even though Spurs have been negotiating with Bayern Munich over the potential transfer of Harry Kane, the Lilywhites have also been busy chasing targets to bolster Postecoglou’s squad.

Now it seems that Spurs have nearly secured a new centre-back that they have targeted throughout the summer.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are very close to agreeing a deal with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven.

Micky van de Ven is said to be close to joining Tottenham

Romano claims that the North Londoners are ‘waiting for the final green light’ from the German side in a deal that will be worth around £43m, including add-ons.

Van de Ven, 22, has spent the past two years playing in Germany with VfL Wolfsburg after switching from Dutch side FC Volendam in the summer of 2021.

The Dutchman made a breakthrough this season in the Bundesliga, making 33 appearances from a possible 34 in the competition.

Van de Ven is also left-footed, making him a suitable candidate for Spurs as they have been n the hunt for a left-sided central defender.

Spurs may have found Postecoglou a new centre-back to pair with Cristian Romero, which his side desperately needs after conceding 63 goals last season in the Premier League.
