Despite not hitting top gear and replacing their manager already this season, Tottenham Hotspur are well in the hunt to claim a top-four finish.

Spurs sit just two places and four points behind fourth placed West Ham United but they have three crucial games in hand on the Hammers.

With rivals Arsenal and Manchester United also eyeing the Champions League spots, it’s going to be an exciting race in the second half of the campaign.

Having arrived in November, Antonio Conte will be determined to get Spurs back in Europe’s elite competition after missing out this season and last.

And it seems that the club’s board are trying to make moves in the transfer market in order to aid the Italian boss.

According to The Athletic’s Dean Jones, Tottenham are becoming increasingly ‘confident’ that they can pull off a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Adama Traore.

Conte’s Spurs are eyeing a top-four finish.

Jones told The Football Terrace Podcast: “Adama is a player that they’ve admired for quite a long time and there’ll be some competition there for Tottenham, even though Tottenham are reasonably confident that they will conclude a deal for Traore.”

It’s claimed that Conte would utilise the 25-year-old as a wing-back on the right of three central defenders.

Traore is blessed with fantastic speed and power, but the Spaniard has not shown he has an end product on a consistent enough basis.

He has yet to find the net this season and in 158 Premier League matches, the former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough attacker has registered just seven goals and 14 assists.

But with Conte aiming to use him as a wing-back rather than a forward, would Traore prove an upgrade or provide stiff competition to Matt Doherty, Japhet Tanganga and Emerson Royal?
