Tottenham Hotspur can secure their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League by beating Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.

Antonio Conte’s side host their Portuguese counterparts in the fifth round of group stage games, knowing that victory will secure their place in the last 16 of the competition.

The Lilywhites are in poor form at present, though, having lost to Manchester United and Newcastle United in their last two matches respectively.

They have won two of their four European games so far this term, beating German side Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 last time out.

Harry Kane impressed during that game, scoring and assisting, and it now appears that the player’s future may have been decided.

The England captain was heavily linked with a move away from the club last summer, but Spurs are now confident that he will extend his stay in the capital, according to reports.

As suggested by 90min, those in charge of Spurs are now confident that the striker will sign a new long-term contract with the club.

Kane has been in superb form so far this season

Kane’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2024, but the club are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement in early 2023.

During the summer of 2021, Kane was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, but he ultimately stayed put in London.

City have since signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, but the rumours linking Kane with a transfer elsewhere haven’t gone away.

He has since been linked with a move to Germany champions Bayern Munich, but the new reports suggest that he will in fact remain a Tottenham player.

Kane has started the season in superb from, scoring 11 goals in 16 games across all competitions, including 10 in 12 Premier League matches.

To date, the 29-year-old has scored a remarkable 259 goals in 402 matches for Spurs, as well as providing 61 assists.

The ex-Norwich City loanee scored against The Magpies on Sunday but his goal wasn’t enough to prevent Spurs from losing to Eddie Howe’s side, who now sit just one place below them in the table.

Kane’s tally of ten league goals already this season is bettered only by Haaland’s remarkable 17.
