Tottenham Hotspur ended their seven-game winless run in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Brentford in West London on Sunday.

Vitaly Janelt’s own goal put the visitors in front in the first half, before substitute Papa Matar Sarr doubled the Lilywhites’ advantage in the closing stages to earn Ange Postecoglou’s side a first league win since the middle of December.

The win moved Spurs up to 14th in the table, and Postecoglou’s attention will now turn to Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool.

Off the pitch those in charge of Tottenham’s recruitment have been working hard to add defenders to Postecoglou’s squad, but the North London side have so far missed out on a number of targets.

Now, it appears that Spurs have had audacious an offer for a Premier League centre-back rejected.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace have rejected a bid from Spurs for defender Marc Guehi.

Guehi is a target for Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs had agreed a loan deal with rivals Chelsea for Axel Disasi but, after the player snubbed the proposed switch, they lodged an offer for Palace’s Guehi, Romano claims.

Palace have no interest in allowing the England international to depart Selhurst Park and the defender – who is under contract until 2026 – is set to stay put with the Eagles at least until the summer.

Guehi, 24, joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021, having previously impressed while on loan at Swansea City.

His next appearance for Palace will be his 140th across all competitions and, although he has been heavily linked with a move away during previous windows and the current one, he looks set to stay put at Selhurst Park for the foreseeable future.

Spurs are in dire need of defensive reinforcements having suffered with injuries for the majority of the campaign so far.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have both missed several months so far, while Radu Dragusin – who had deputised for the first choice pairing – has recently been ruled out with an injury of his own.
