Tottenham Hotspur travel to The Etihad on Thursday to face reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Lilywhites have been in poor form of late, winning just one of their four league matches since the World Cup, and manager Antonio Conte is under increasing pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around.

Spurs’ last defeat – a 2-1 north London derby loss to rivals Arsenal – piled the pressure on the Italian, who looks to be keen on bolstering his squad before the transfer window closes.

Spurs have been linked with a number of names, and they have now reportedly launched an offer for a new full-back.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have made a player-plus-cash offer for Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro, although the Portuguese side have rejected the bid.

Romano claims that negotiations are continuing for the Spain international, who has been in good form for his club side of late.

So far this term, Porro has made 23 appearances across all competitions, providing an impressive ten assists in the process.

Porro is a target for Spurs

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most in-form full-backs in Europe at present, and Spurs are keen to secure the player’s signature.

Sporting are believed to be demanding £40 million for the signing of Porro, while Spurs are hoping to agree a reduced fee as they are aware of the player’s desire to join the London club.

Porro joined Sporting from Manchester City last summer, having failed to make a single appearance for The Citizens.

During his stint with City, he spent time on loan at both Sporting and Spanish side Real Valladolid.

Spurs are in the market for a new right wing-back as Conte plans for a hectic second half of the campaign.

At present, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty are primarily being used at right wing-back for Spurs, although both players have struggled for consistency and Conte appears keen to add a new recruit.

It remains to be seen which player was included as part of Spurs’ initial offer for Porro.
