When all chips are counted for Tottenham Hotspur, a disappointing manner of loss in the EFL Cup final and finishing seventh in the Premier League – subjecting them to a year of the Europa Conference League – mean it’s a poor 12 months.

The ‘special one’ Jose Mourinho is out the door – the serial winner was out the door days before the aforementioned cup final bizarrely – and now there is no permanent solution in place, following interim Ryan Mason.

It could look pretty bleak for Spurs but for a shock turnaround of events.

The Athletic and Sky Sports are reporting that former boss Mauricio Pochettino, who guided them to a Champions League final in 2019, is in talks for a potential return just six months after he joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

This season was only the second time in nine that PSG didn’t win Ligue One, to add to defeat in the Champions League semi-final at the hands of Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino did manage to win the French Cup in his first half-season with the Parisian side

Pochettino was sacked by Spurs only 18 months ago though and has a year left on his deal in Paris, but reportedly is keen for a move back after failing to settle.

However, the report also details that PSG would not want to lose him already, and face another summer of upheaval, following recently replacing now Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, too.

For Spurs owner Daniel Levy, it could be seen as one easy way to repair relations with fans after a difficult year, in which the team have failed to perform and the potential of a European Super League was shot down in unison across the country.

Spurs fans – if Pochettino was to return, what would be your final verdict? And is it indicative of a poor decision gone wrong to oust him in the first place?
