Nuno Espirito Santo appeared frustrated when he was yet again asked about the future of talisman Harry Kane.

The new Spurs manager will unfortunately have to get used to those questions, as the 27-year-old’s future will likely be the transfer story of the whole summer.

Kane is currently recovering on holiday, after a tiring Euro 2020 which saw him score four goals as he captained England to their first major international final since 1966.

It is believed the striker, who has scored 221 goals in 336 appearances, has told the club he wants to seek pastures new, with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United claimed to be interested in the star.

While Kane’s future will dominate all transfer talk surrounding Spurs, it is believed the North Londoners are keen in reinforcing their defence and have identified Juventus’ Argentinean defender Cristian Romero as an option, according to football.london.

Romero made 42 appearances in all competitions for Atalanta last season.

The 23-year-old defender enjoyed an immense season, winning the Serie A defender of the year award, before going on to win the Copa America with Argentina this summer.

Currently Romero is one year into a two year loan spell with Atalanta, however, the Italian side have the option to buy him for £13.8 million, where they could then immediately sell him to Spurs for a handsome profit.

It’s a relatively complicated transfer, but it could be a win-win for both Spurs and Atalanta this season.

Santo is desperate to improve a Spurs defence which was very leaky and vulnerable last season.

The former Wolves manager likes to play three central defenders with marauding wing-backs overlapping, but he will need to add extra steel to the Spurs defence before he can do that.
