Tottenham Hotspur welcome Everton to North London on Saturday afternoon.

The Lilywhites were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City in their Premier League season opener on Monday, with veteran striker Jamie Vardy heading the Foxes level in the second half after Pedro Porro had put Spurs ahead.

Ange Postecoglou’s side started last season in fine form, going unbeaten for the first ten matches of the campaign.

The Australian, now in his second term in charge of the North London outfit, will hope to see his side finish in the top four this season after narrowly missing out Champions League qualification at the end of last term.

In the meantime, it appears that Tottenham are unlikely to continue pursuing one of their transfer targets in the final days of the window.

As per Football Insider, Spurs are increasingly unlikely to move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze before the window slams shut at the end of August.

Eze, 26, enjoyed a fine season for the Eagles last term, which earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championships in Germany.

Eze was a target for Tottenham earlier this summer

The attacking midfielder was linked with a move away from Selhurst Park earlier this summer, but the report suggests that he is likely to now stay put.

Palace have already sold winger Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, while central defender Joachim Andersen has joined Premier League rivals Fulham.

In total, Eze has scored 26 goals and provided 17 assists in 125 games for Palace across all competitions.

Instead of pursuing Eze, the report claims that Spurs are set to target moves for a centre-back and a central midfielder in the closing stages of the window.

Eze’s contract with the Eagles doesn’t expire until 2027 and, with Olise having already departed, those in charge of the club including manager Oliver Glasner will be determined to keep hold of him beyond the end of the month.
