Tottenham Hotspur make the short trip across the capital to face rivals Chelsea on Thursday evening.

The Lilywhites retain slim hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this term, but they will likely need to beat the Blues in order to do so.

Ange Postecoglou’s side currently sit fifth, seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, but to have two games-in-hand over the Villans in the battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

This season could be a busy one for Spurs, with several potential incomings and outgoings once the transfer window opens.

With that in mind, the club have reportedly been monitoring a Serie A defender.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have been keeping tabs on Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori.

Calafiori has been in fine form for Bologna this season

The 21-year-old has impressed during his first season with Bologna, having joined the club from Swiss side Basel last year.

Calafiori has played 30 times for his current side so far this season, and Spurs have been compiling a dossier on the young defender with a view to potentially making a move for him this summer.

His impressive displays have also attracted interest from fellow Italian sides Juventus and Napoli, according to the report.

Calafiori is currently contracted to Bologna until the end of the 2026/27 season, but the Lilywhites could attempt to lure him away from his current club this summer.

The Italy under-21 international is able to play at left-back as well as in the centre of defence, which could appeal to Postecoglou and those in charge of Spurs’ recruitment.

The report claims that Spurs’ former director of football, Fabio Paratici, has been receiving positive information about the player, despite the transfer consultant himself currently serving a ban.
