Now they finally have a manager, project rebuild is well and truly underway at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

The North Londoners missed out on Champions League football for the second consecutive season, in spite of Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min starring and contributing 89 goals and assists between each other.

A League Cup final appearance was certainly not enough to gloss over a season which started with a barnstorming 6-1 away victory at Old Trafford, but ended with a rather meek seventh placed finish.

If Nuno Espirito Santo’s job was not hard enough, he will likely have to try and get Spurs back into the top four without star man Harry Kane, who announced before the European Championships he wishes to seek pastures new and leave Spurs.

Kane still has three years left on his contract at Tottenham and a £100 million bid from Manchester City has allegedly already been rejected.

However, Spurs are also focusing on their squad and according to the Daily Mail, Spurs are set to tempt Southampton with an offer for Danish centre-half Jannick Vestergaard.

Vestergaard has impressed in Denmark’s run to the Euro 2020 semi-finals.

The 6ft-6in powerhouse has been a rock at the back for Denmark this summer, and if Espirito Santo wishes to play a three man defence like he did successfully at Wolves, then the 28-year-old would be the ideal defender to anchor.

He would also be an ideal replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who is reportedly looking for an exit this season.

Vestergaard’s contract at the Saints expires in 2022; therefore, he could be available on a cut-price should he want to depart the St Mary’s stadium.
