Tottenham Hotspur have started the Premier League season brightly, and sit separated from top spot only by goal different after negotiating a tricky opening two games.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have defeated both reigning champions Manchester City and his former side Wolves 1-0, and go into the third round of fixtures in joint top spot.

Despite their impressive start, Santo is reportedly not entirely happy with his squad, and wants to add a wide player to his ranks.

One of his prime targets, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, is Juventus’ Weston McKennie.

The USA international was one of the Serie A side’s better performers during a season to forget last term, but new boss Max Allegri is apparently happy to let the player leave for the right price.

McKennie was one of the standout performers in a disappointing Juventus side last term.

The 22-year-old made 46 appearances for the club across all competitions last season, scoring six times, and has attracted the attention of Spurs’ director of football.

It is believed that Spurs’ preference would be for a loan deal with an option to buy after 12 months, and that is roughly what any offer from the club would look like.

However, the same outlet also reports that Spurs’ Premier League rivals Aston Villa, fresh from a summer spending spree, are also keen on McKennie.

Despite having added Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia and Danny Ings to his squad, Villa boss Dean Smith is apparently still keen to sign further reinforcements to replace Jack Grealish.

While it is not yet known whether or not McKennie would consider a move to the Premier League, an offer looks increasingly likely as we enter the final days of the window.
