Tottenham Hotspur moved a step closer to automatic qualification for the Europa League last 16 with a 3-2 win over German side Hoffenheim on Thursday.

A James Maddison strike and a brace from captain Son Heung-Min earned the Lilywhites an important victory, lifting them up to sixth place in the table with the top eight sides qualifying automatically for the last 16.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will hope to secure automatic qualification when they face Elfsborg in the final round of group phase matches.

In the meantime, it appears that Spurs have enquired about an Eredivisie star.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the North London side have asked about the conditions required to sign Ajax forward Brian Brobbey on loan.

The 22-year-old is a product of the Dutch side’s youth system and has previously spent time at German outfit RB Leipzig, before returning to Amsterdam in 2022.

Brobbey has attracted interest from Tottenham

In total he has played 148 times for Ajax across all competitions, scoring 52 goals and providing 26 assists.

Romano claims that Spurs will face competition from London rivals West Ham United in the race to sign Brobbey, with the Hammers already in contact with their Dutch counterparts about a loan deal.

Brobbey, who has scored just once in 17 league games so far this term, is under contract with his current employers until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

West Ham are said to be discussing an initial loan move for the player that would also include an obligation-to-buy clause.

Tottenham’s need for attacking reinforcements comes amid a poor run of form for Postecoglou’s side, who have picked up just five points from their last ten Premier League matches.

Striker Dominic Solanke is also now expected to be sidelined due to injury, and Spurs are therefore on the hunt for new signings to bolster Postecoglou’s options in attack.
