Tottenham Hotspur are now less than three weeks away from fulfilling their prime target for this transfer window – keeping hold of talisman Harry Kane.

The England captain looked all set for a move to Manchester City a couple of weeks ago, but City’s £100 million move for Jack Grealish looks to have deterred that, for now at least.

Spurs have also been buoyed by the signings of Bryan Gil from Sevilla, and Pierluigi Gollini and Cristian Romero on loan from Serie A side Atalanta.

New Spurs boss Nuno Esperito Santo had reportedly also prioritised a striker to partner Kane, and Lautaro Martinez has since emerged as the leading candidate to do so.

Now, it is also being reported that Spurs are lining up a shock move for a newly-promoted player, who impressed when last in the top flight two years ago.

Any further potential incomings at Spurs may depend on the future of Harry Kane.

According to Eurosport, the Lilywhites are also interested in Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, however a deal for the player could be out of Spurs’ reach.

The report states that Sarr, who is also thought to have attracted significant interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United in recent transfer windows, is not for sale.

His current employers are apparently desperate to avoid losing their talisman so close to the start of the season, and will therefore notify any interested party that offers need to be well in advance of £50 million.

Having already forked out £22.5 million for Romero, it is extremely unlikely that Spurs would be able to afford Sarr, unless Kane is sold for a significant fee.

It was believed that Kane would raise more than £100 million if a move away did materialise however, with such little time left before the window slams shut once again, a deal is looking increasingly unlikely.
