Tottenham Hotspur endured another frustrating weekend as they were beaten 2-1 by Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

The Lilywhites have had a mixed season so far but recent victories over Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion had given manager Ange Postecoglou cause for optimism.

Wolves were dominant in North London on Saturday, though, with a Joao Gomes brace enough to earn the visitors an impressive victory.

The result leaves the Lilywhites fifth in the Premier League table, although they do remain firmly in the hunt for a top four spot.

Off the pitch, it has emerged that Spurs are considering a surprise move for a Premier League midfielder.

As per Football Insider, Tottenham are interested in Everton midfielder James Garner.

The report claims that both Spurs and Newcastle United are interested in the 22-year-old, who is enjoying an impressive individual campaign despite the Toffees’ battle with relegation.

Garner has attracted interest from both Spurs and Newcastle

Garner was a product of Manchester United’s famous academy and eventually departed the Red Devils to join Everton in 2022, having previously spent time on loan at both Watford and Nottingham Forest.

In total the midfielder has made 47 appearances for Everton across all competitions, having featured only seven times for United.

Both Spurs and the Magpies are said to be on the hunt for young players capable of playing in Europe, and Garner is believed to fit that bill.

Garner’s versatility will also undoubtedly appeal to potential suitors, with the Englishman able to play in a variety of midfield roles including centrally and on the right.

The Toffees currently sit 18th in the top flight table and it is suggested that the Merseyside outfit could face a tough battle to keep hold of Garner if they do suffer relegation to the Championship.

Garner has previously been a regular for England at Under-21 level.
