Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to move a step closer to Champions League qualification when they face Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Lilywhites currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, but they were frustrated and had to come from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw against Brentford last time out.

It remains to be seen how many changes Antonio Conte will make to his starting line-up for the visit of The Villans, but it now appears that one player will not be involved for the game.

According to Football Insider, Emerson Royal has been involved in a disagreement with a member of Conte’s coaching staff.

The report claims that the bust-up was the primary reason for Royal not being involved in Spurs’ Boxing Day draw with Brentford.

Royal could be on his way out of Tottenham next month

It is also claimed that the club are willing to allow the full-back to leave during the upcoming January transfer window.

Royal, 23, joined Spurs from Barcelona last summer but has struggled for consistency ever since arriving in the capital.

The Brazil international has made 59 appearances for Spurs, but has been criticised on a number of occasions for his defensive vulnerabilities.

Prior to the draw against Brentford, the defender had started 11 of Spurs’ 15 Premier League matches so far this season, as well as featuring in all six of their Champions League group stage matches.

It isn’t yet known whether or not any clubs have shown an interest in the former Barcelona man, but it appears fairly certain that the defender’s time in north London could be coming to an end.

His current contract runs until 2026, but it appears increasingly unlikely that he will remain at the club for the entirety of that deal.
