Tottenham Hotspur ended a run of five games without a win by beating Newcastle United 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Ange Postecoglou’s side had topped the Premier League table after an unbeaten first ten matches, but a 4-1 loss to rivals Chelsea had started a run of five games without a win.

Spurs returned to winning ways in style against the Magpies, though, with full-back Destiny Udogie putting the hosts ahead in North London.

Richarlison then netted either side of half-time to put the Lilywhites in a commanding position, before captain Son Heung-Min netted from the penalty spot to make it 4-0.

Midfielder Joelinton grabbed a late consolation for the visitors, whose poor record away from home this season continued.

In the wake of the game, it has emerged that one of Tottenham’s goal scorers on Sunday is close to agreeing a new deal.

Udogie’s first Tottenham goal gave the Lilywhites the lead over Newcastle on Sunday

According to 90min, Udogie is close to agreeing an extension to his current deal.

The 21-year-old joined Spurs from Italian side Udinese last summer, but remained with the Serie A side on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.

The North London outfit’s willingness to include the clause in the deal allowed them to move ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion in the race to sign Udogie last year, and Tottenham promptly finalised the move.

Since moving to London the Italian has established himself as a regular for Postecoglou, making 14 appearances across all competitions.

He has started all of Spurs’ Premier League matches so far this term, with the exception of their games against Crystal Palace and Wolves, when the Italy international was injured and suspended respectively.

His current contract, signed when joining the club, is set to run until 2027, but the report claims that Spurs are keen to agree a long-term extension.

Traditionally a left-back, Udogie has excelled in an attacking role in Postecoglou’s side.
